Finite-Sample Diagnostics for Multivariate Regressions with Applications to Linear Asset Pricing Models

In this paper, we propose several finite-sample specification tests for multivariate linear regressions (MLR) with applications to asset pricing models. We focus on departures from the assumption of i.i.d. errors assumption, at univariate and multivariate levels, with Gaussian and non-Gaussian (including Student t) errors. The univariate tests studied extend existing exact procedures by allowin...

Stationary Markov chains with linear regressions

In Bryc(1998) we determined one dimensional distributions of a stationary field with linear regressions (1) and quadratic conditional variances (2) under a linear constraint (7) on the coefficients of the quadratic expression (3). In this paper we show that for stationary Markov chains with linear regressions and quadratic conditional variances the coefficients of the quadratic expression are i...

Stationary random fields with linear regressions ∗

We analyze and identify stationary fields with linear regressions and quadratic conditional variances. We give sufficient conditions to determine one dimensional distributions uniquely as normal, and as certain compactly-supported distributions. Our technique relies on orthogonal polynomials, which under our assumptions turn out to be a version of the so called continuous q-Hermite polynomials.

Understanding Diamond Pricing Using Unconditional Quantile Regressions

This paper investigates the relationship between the selling price of diamonds and their weight in carats. For this purpose, we use a unique sample of 112,080 certified diamonds collected from www.info-diamond.com during the first week of July 2011. We find substantial differences in pricing depending on cut shape. The price of diamonds increases markedly with the carat weight, with a price ela...

Learning Mixtures of Linear Regressions with Nearly Optimal Complexity

Mixtures of Linear Regressions (MLR) is an important mixture model with many applications. In this model, each observation is generated from one of the several unknown linear regression components, where the identity of the generated component is also unknown. Previous works either assume strong assumptions on the data distribution or have high complexity. This paper proposes a fixed parameter ...
